La Campeonato Mundial WPT isn’t just a battle of wills between the world’s best poker players. It’s a battle of attrition.

When late registration ended at the end of Level 12, 152 players had taken seats in the $25,000 + $500 event, generating a total prize pool worth more than $3.6 million and first-place payout worth nearly $1.2 million. With Day 4 now underway, 44 players, including 16 WPT Champions Club members still have a shot at the title – and the cash.

Among the remaining players, WPT Champion Nick Schulman started the day in second chip position, followed closely by fellow WPT Champions Guillermo Darcourt (3rd), Antonio Esfandiari (4th), y Rinat Bogdánov (5th).

Some notable players who busted from the event on Day 3 include defending champion scott seiver and current WPT Player of the Year front-runner, Will "The Thrill" Falla. Failla’s early exit means the POY race is still up in the air, with 11 other players, including Joe Serock, David Sands, Matthew Waxmany Noé Schwartz all in the hunt.

With many big names already eliminated from the WPT World Championship, anticipation is building for the Súper gran apostador WPT tournament, which begins Wednesday, May 22 at 12pm PST. Potential players in this elite $100,000 tournament – with re-entry – include Failla, Seiver, Jason Mercier, Vanessa Selbst, and Daniel Negreanu.
