Kathy Liebert (nickname: PokerKat) is arguably the greatest female tournament poker player in the world, with a little less than $5 million in career earnings. She was the first woman to win $1 million in a single tournament, back in 2002 when she won the PartyPoker Million. If you ignored that million-dollar payday, shed still top the women's all-time money list. Liebert is also 39th on the all-time money list, and a victory here would move her up to 31st place, between 2004 WSOP Main Event champ Greg Raymer and 2008 WPT World Champion David Chiu.
This is Liebert's sixth WPT Final Table, and she has reached seven WSOP final tables. She also won a WSOP bracelet in 2004 en $1,500 limit hold’em shootout. (Her million-dollar PartyPoker victory also came in limit hold’em.)
If she wins tonight, Liebert will enter the record books in a few different categories. First, she's looking to become the first woman to win an open WPT event. Second, she'd be the first woman to win a $10,000 no-limit hold’em event in the United States. Third, she'd be the first "Shooting Star" to win this event since it became a part of the World Poker Tour in 2004. (John Bonnetti won this event as a Shooting Star in 1999.)
As a Shooting Star, any player who busts Liebert will receive a $5,000 bounty and an autographed t-shirt. (If Liebert wins, she would claim her own bounty.) But with $1 million looming for first prize, that bounty is much less of a factor than it was on previous days of the tournament.
